PRESENTS
MERCURY
FILTRATION COMPLIANCE
With todays increasing awareness of mercury pollution in our waterways,
methods of capturing waste amalgam and mercury from the dental office
prior discharge into the public sewer, septic or landfill has become
priority to all those involved.
Most dental practices have
waste amalgam chairside traps and vacuum filters. Proper recycling and
disposal of this hazardous waste material must occur according to local,
state, and federal regulations. Even though these filters and traps
are in place, an unseen large amount of waste mercury passes through
into our environment. This unseen volume of hazardous waste is the result
from removal of amalgam fillings that flow through the vacuum line passing
through the chairside traps and vacuum filters, which have no effect
on that size particulate.
The Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) has imposed allowable discharge limits of this material
that can be made more stringent by your local POTW. Most allowable discharge
limits are far below what is discharged currently. In able to meet the
new stringent requirements, filtration of the wastewater from the vacuum
pump is necessary prior discharge.
Healthcare Compliance Service
provides ISO approved filtration service that complies with the most
stringent allowable discharge limits. HCS provides several filtration
units with disposal/recycling services to offer the variety of applications
at the dental office.
